Water Polo

Tiger Water Polo primarily serves athletes from the North Allegheny School District but also welcomes athletes from any school district in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Our club season runs from August 1 to July 31. We offer three sessions throughout the year for three age-group categories as defined by USA Water Polo:

10U/12U Co-Ed

The 10U/12U Co-ed Program (formerly Elementary) is designed for those who can swim and are comfortable in deep water. Children will begin to learn more about water polo skills and gameplay. They will spend time in friendly games with newfound teammates. 10U/12U practices provide a supportive environment for children to consider a sport that they may want to pursue. 10U/12U Co-ed athletes will practice once per week, typically on Sunday afternoons. This age group does not travel.

14U Co-Ed

The 14U Co-ed Program (formerly Middle School) is for athletes who are ready to learn more sport-specific skills, get more involved in team dynamics, play inter-squad games, and increase their commitment toward improvement. Training sessions will be more frequent, typically 3-4 times per week, and opportunities will be presented to play competitively in tournaments locally and regionally.

16U/18U Girls and Boys

The 16U/18U Girls and Boys Program (formerly High School) is for athletes who have a desire for game strategy, harder workouts, and regular competition. This program offers high-level training 3-4 days per week in a fun environment aimed at accelerating personal development and team success in competitions. Athletes may be invited to play in regional, state, and national tournaments.

Strength & Conditioning

We are pleased to offer Strength & Conditioning training for our 16U/18U athletes. This training will be offered approximately once a week for a fee in addition to regular practices. Athletes must be registered for a regular session to be eligible to participate. Strength & Conditioning is not available as a stand alone registration.

Weekender

This year, we are offering a Saturday/Holiday-only registration for 16U/18U athletes with a longer commute. Please note that this is only for students outside of the North Allegheny School District. Strength & Conditioning cannot be combined with this registration. Depending on attendance and readiness, these athletes may be eligible for tournament play.

When

Season begins mid-November and runs through the end of March. Teams practice 1 to 4 times per week depending on the age group.

TOURNAMENT FEES

Tournament fees are calculated by adding the costs for tournament registration, additional coaches (if needed), and coach expenses; and dividing by the number of participating athletes. This amount will be billed to participants automatically following a tournament. Prior to asking for a commitment for a tournament, the club will give families our best estimate at what we expect the fees to be. Please note that once you commit, you will be responsible for your family’s share of the cost whether your athlete travels or not.

UNIFORM

A team shirt will be provided for new athletes who register before the first day of practice. Team suits will be available to order during the first two weeks of the session and required for 14U and 16U/18U players.

USA WATER POLO membership

The club expects all 14U, 16U, and 18U athletes to maintain at least a Bronze Level membership with USA Water Polo. As members of the Tiger Water Polo Club, you can select “Pittsburgh Water Polo Club” as your club affiliation. USA Water Polo membership will give you information about and access to training opportunities around the country. Some of the tournaments our club participates in will require each athlete to have a USA Water Polo membership.

Spring/Summer Session 2024

The Spring/Summer Session offers athletes opportunities for growth and development through regular training. This is an ideal time to hone skills and improve your game. There will be several scrimmage opportunities with regional teams and travel opportunity for our 14U Coed and 16/18U teams.
