Coaching Staff

HEAD COACH, DAMIR MATANOVIC

Coach Mata has spent his entire professional life focused on one thing and one thing only: being a top-level water polo coach. He studied under some of the best coaches the sport has to offer while coming up through a water polo school in Montenegro. Coach Mata has coached within professional club programs for most of his career, including time with Primorac-Kotor and in the professional women’s league in China. When he was not coaching professionally overseas, he was here in America as the first full-time coach of Tiger Water Polo Club.

Coach Mata has a truly special affection for Pittsburgh and an even greater appreciation for the Tiger Water Polo Club and its families. Outside of his hometown of Tivat in Montenegro, Pittsburgh and Tiger Water Polo are where he and his wife, Marijana, and their son, Konstantin, feel most at home.

Coach Vojislav Pekovic (Coach "Vojo")

Coach Vojo joined Tiger Water Polo as our 2nd Full Time Coach. Coach Vojo's water polo career began in 2009 when he was a player for Water Polo Clubs in Montenegro and throughout Europe. Coach Vojo’s teams won many championships and he was selected to play for the Montenegro Youth National Team, where he played internationally. After retiring from his playing career, Coach Vojo joined the coaching team at Primorac Water Polo Club for youth water polo aged 8-18. Coach Vojo’s success with this Club led to his selection for the Montenegro National Team youth coaching program, where he was the Head Coach of the 15 & Under age group and on the National Team Selection Committee for 14 & Under, 12 & Under, and 10 & Under age groups. Coach Vojo is thrilled to relocate to the United States and specifically to Pittsburgh so he can continue to share his knowledge and expertise in the sport with our members.
